A Quebec man died after a boat exploded at a South Florida marina this week that also injured six people, officials said.

The explosion occurred Monday and the man has been identified as Sebastian Gauthier, 41, Arielle Callender, spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), said in a statement to CBC News.

Callender said that according to preliminary information, the ship exploded after starting its engines.

The other six passengers were taken to hospital for treatment.

The FWC’s investigation is ongoing, Callender said.

“Our deepest condolences to Mr. Gauthier’s family and friends during this difficult time,” she wrote.
