BBC News, Washington
On Monday, US President Donald Trump Foludmir Zelinski will host his first meeting since the husband’s hot exchange of the White House earlier this year – but this time the Ukrainian President brings European allies.
NATO Secretary -General Mark Root and UK Prime Minister Sir Kerr Starmer are among the leaders who will join Zeilinsky in Washington for talks on how to end the war with Russia.
This is followed by the Trump summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, which resulted in the overthrow of the US President to a ceasefire and invitation instead to obtain a permanent peace deal.
On Sunday, an American envoy said that Putin agreed to a NATO security agreement.
“Great progress in Russia. Stay tuned!” Trump posted on the social truth platform, without clarification.
It is also heading to Washington for a meeting on Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Miloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Mirz, Finnish President Alexander Stop and European Commission President Ursula von der Lin. It is not clear that they will go to the White House.
For many heads of state to travel with such a small notice across the Atlantic Ocean to what is mainly, the meeting of the war crisis without precedent appears in the modern era, which confirms the high risks.
Diplomatic sources say that European officials are concerned that Trump may try to pressure Zelinski to agree to the conditions, after the Ukrainian leader was excluded from Trump Putin’s meeting on the American soil last Friday.
But US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told the American BBC partner CBS that any proposal might be subjected to Trump to accept a peace deal that was a “stupid media narration”.
NATO leaders also seem to be eager to avoid the repetition of Zelinski’s journey in February to the Oval Office, which suddenly ended after controversy with Trump and US Vice President JD Vance.
The argument – which has witnessed Trump’s accusation of Zelensky of “Gambling with World War III” – left Washington’s relations – CIM in Thaters.
But European leaders have been working hard behind the scenes since then to fix the relationship. The Ukrainian leader was trained to talk in terms of making deals – the language that resonates with Trump.
In April, Ukraine signed the mineral agreement that granted the United States a financial share in the country, and Trump and Zelinski spoke unilaterally in the Vatican before the funeral of Pope Francis. Ukraine has made it clear that it was ready to push US weapons.
By July, the two leaders made a phone call that the Ukrainian president described as “the best conversation we had.”
Meanwhile, Trump began expressing his discontent with Russia’s continuous attack in Ukraine. He described Putin as “very crazy”, greatly shorten the deadline for a peace agreement, and threatened economic sanctions on Moscow.
With these deliberations, Russian forces continue to advance in the battlefield. They are now occupying nearly five Ukraine since Moscow launched its full invasion in February 2022.

A virtual summit was held on Sunday between Zelinski and the so -called coalition – a group of countries, including the United Kingdom, France and Germany, which pledged peace protection in Ukraine as soon as it was achieved.
After that, Emmanuel Macron told the correspondents that their plan was to “present a unified front” for talks on Monday with Trump.
Zelinski and NATO leaders said they are keen to know more after the American envoy Steve Wittfs told us that Putin agreed on Friday to “strong security guarantees that I will describe as changing the game.”
Wittakov said that such an agreement could see Europe and the United States protect Ukraine from more aggression through a NATO defense agreement.
“We managed to win the following privilege: that the United States can provide protection similar to Article 5, which is one of the real reasons behind Ukraine’s desire for NATO,” Witkev told CNN on Sunday.
Putin has long opposed Ukraine’s accession to NATO, and Witkeov said that the arrangement may be an alternative if they could live with it. “
Article 5 is a principle in the heart of the 32 -member military alliance that says that its members will reach a defense of an ally who is attacked.
Wittakov CNN told Russia that “some concessions” have made five highly disputed areas in Ukraine.
In talks with European allies after the Alaska summit, Trump said that Putin reiterated that he wanted the main regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, which formed Donbas, eastern Ukraine, according to European officials.
But at the virtual summit on Sunday with NATO leaders, Zelinski stressed that the Ukrainian constitution makes it impossible to give up the lands – and that it should be discussed only by Ukraine and Russia leaders at a triple summit with the United States.
Meanwhile, the US Secretary of State sought to alleviate hopes that the deal to end the bloody conflict in Europe for 80 years is imminent.
On Sunday, Rubio said: “We are still long -term,” Rubio said on Sunday.
