Government data showed on Monday that wholesale price inflation (WPI) decreased to 0.39 percent in May as prices for food articles, manufactured products and fuel dilution. WPI on April was 0.85 percent. It was 2.74 percent in May last year.
With this WPI fell to the lowest level in 14 months.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry said that the rate of positive inflation in May 2025 is primarily due to the increase in the prices of food and electricity products, other manufacturing, chemicals, chemical products, manufacturing other transport equipment, and non -food articles.
According to WPI data, food articles witnessed a contraction of 1.56 percent in May, compared to 0.86 percent shrinkage in April, with vegetables seeing a sharp decrease. The contraction in vegetables was 21.62 percent in May, compared to 18.26 percent in April.
Manufactured products saw inflation by 2.04 percent, compared to 2.62 percent in April. Fuel and energy saw 2.27 percent in May, compared to 2.18 percent in April.
The Indian Reserve Bank (RBI) takes into account the retail enlargement with the formulation of monetary policy. The data released last week showed that retail enlargement decreased to the lowest level in six years at 2.82 percent in May, mainly due to the prices of wrong food.
This month RBI reduced standard policy interest rates by 0.50 percent to 5.50 percent amid inflation in inflation.
