The Women’s World Cup will be expanded from 32 to 48 teams in time for the 2035 UK Championship.
The decision was made during the virtual FIFA Council meeting on Friday.
It will be valid from 2031 when the Women’s World Cup is scheduled to be organized in the United States.
“This decision guarantees that we maintain momentum in terms of women’s football growth worldwide,” said Gianni Infantino, FIFA president.
FIFA still needs to ratify the 2031 and 2035 hosts. The 2027 championship in Brazil will remain in 32 teams.
This means that the number of matches will jump from 64 under the form of 32 teams to 104 – as will be in the Men’s World Cup in 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
There will be concerns about the women’s game about more incomprehensible, such as a 13-0 victory from the United States of America against Thailand in the 2019 Women’s World Cup when there were 24 contestants in the final.
But adding 12 other teams to the Australian New Zealand championship in 2023 was not produced by one side.
The Netherlands crushed Vietnam 7-0, but the Americans only overcome the new arrivals 3-0.
The English -led offer was the only remaining ladies World Cup for the year 2035 after Spain did not present Purgal Moroko in effect as planned as planned.
Britain should be able to deal with 104 games with stadiums throughout England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
England won the Women’s Women’s Championships in Wembley in 2022.
“Hosting the FIFA World Cup is the first in England since 1966, along with the partners of household nations, it will be very special,” said Mark Bolandham, CEO of the Football Association in April.
There are hopes that the championship will host the stadiums throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will help the popularity of women’s game in the United Kingdom.
This comes after the success of England in the Euro 2022 final and a 1-0 defeat against Spain in the 2023 World Cup final.
“The euro here was amazing and the World Cup will not be believed at all,” England Keloy Kelly star told Sky News last year.
“I think everyone dreamed, of course … England fans love football and we are ready to fall behind the team. So I think it is important that we have many festive moments together.”
