Sophie Ecclestone was challenged to “make her mark” for England in the Women’s Cricket World Cup, Nat Sciver-Brent said.
Sciver-Brunt was a star performer in England’s 89-run win over Sri Lankabecoming the first batsman to score a five-hundred in the history of the ICC Women’s World Cup as she fired a brilliant 117 from the highest number of deliveries.
She also took two wickets as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 164 and England recorded their third successive win.
Joining Sciver-Brunt in this bowling attack was Ecclestone, who produced an impressive performance to finish with figures of four for 17.
“It’s great, isn’t it?” said Eccleston’s Seaver-Brent.
“To be able to hand the ball to her and not do many runs and pick up four wickets is pretty special.
“But from the moment she joined the team as a 16-year-old, we knew we had something special on our hands.
“She’s really developed in the last couple of months and we’ve challenged her to improve and make an impact on the team and for herself, and I’m really happy for her.”
England will play Pakistan next Wednesday before additional group stage tests against India, Australia and New Zealand.
