Will Tate Dutton die in Yellowstone?

Spoilers Followed by “Yellowstone.”

1883 predicted the end of Yellowstone. When tribal leader Spotted Eagle (Graham Greene) tells James Dutton (Tim McGraw) that his family’s land will return to the Native American people in seven generations. “Yellowstone” ultimately reveals that Tate Dutton (Breckin Merrill) is the son of the seventh generation of the family, and the prophecy is finally fulfilled.

While the aforementioned “1883” scene suggests that Tate will be at the center of a violent land dispute, it turns out to be a peaceful deal. Season 5 of “Yellowstone” ends with Tate alive and well, though the same can’t be said for the other characters.

Meanwhile, the son of Monica (Casey Asbell) and Casey Dutton (Luke Grimes) faced death during his childhood, having faced off against Mother Nature, hitmen, and other nefarious threats. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at the times Tate stared death in the face and somehow emerged from the events unscathed.

Tate’s childhood was not easy around Yellowstone, and his misfortunes began early. The episode “No Good Horses” from Season 1 sees Cayce leave him in a drain pipe so he can go after some criminals. However, it turns out that the pipe is not a safe place for young Tate, as he comes face to face with a rattlesnake and must kill it with a rock. Tate shows no fear and easily defeats the reptile, but the scene confirms that danger can befall children in this series.

While encountering rattlesnakes is always a threat to one’s life, Tate had a direct brush with death during the first season’s episode “The Long Black Train.” This moment occurs during what is supposed to be a relaxing fishing trip with his grandfather, John Dutton (Kevin Costner), but culminates in Tate falling into the river and nearly drowning. Fortunately, John acts quickly and saves the child before he drowns. However, it’s a close call.

The most intense story of “Yellowstone” Season 2 puts Tate at the center of the action. The Duttons find themselves embroiled in a blood feud with the Beck brothers, who want the family land and are willing to get their hands dirty to achieve their goals. This leads to Tate being kidnapped and left with a neo-Nazi militia, which is as disturbing as it sounds. Tate is eventually rescued, but suffers from PTSD for a while afterward, though he returns after spending time with his grandfather.

Tate also comes close to death in the Season 3 finale of “Yellowstone,” when gunmen storm his family’s farm and a shootout ensues. Monica Dutton and the ranchers manage to thwart their enemies and protect Tate—and their land—in the end, but the violent horrors linger on the boy’s mind for a while, and it takes a minute for him to recover from the horror of it all. .

Tate’s story ends with him at a livestock auction with his old man before riding with his mother on their farm, watching their new cows being unloaded. This suggests that he will follow in his father’s footsteps and become a farmer, as the ending explains that he and Kayce will have to work hard to maintain their farm.

No matter what Tate’s future holds, the Yellowstone Season 5 finale suggests he’ll probably be okay. He deserves a peaceful life too, since he grew up in a hostile environment and was kidnapped by some unsavory characters.
