Rwanda -backed rebels seize huge areas of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The rebels, known as the M23, say they protect the ethnic totsi, and slaughtered the group of minorities in the genocide in 1994. But experts say that the real reason is rare minerals in the Congo, which works to operate our phones and devices. Ruth McLean, head of the West Africa Office in the New York Times, explains how the rebels and their sponsors in Rwanda benefit from conflict.
