Who is Musa? Marvel’s Daredevil: Reborn Tomorrow Explained

After months of impatient fan waiting, and several serious production delays, Daredevil: Born Again is almost here. Announced nearly three years ago during San Diego Comic-Con, the series will finally reunite Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk in Hell’s Kitchen. However, the Kingpin won’t be the only villain on the ride this time. Not by a long shot.

This is none other than Muse, a villain who is a fairly recent addition to the Marvel Comics canon, having first appeared in “Daredevil” #11 in 2016. The character was created by writer Charles Soule and artist Ron Garney. Simply put, Moses is a serial killer who turns his victims into works of art. It is not clear at this time which actor is wearing this mask. Time will tell.

Moses first appeared in what Marvel Comics described as “the scariest (reckless) story of the century.” He has appeared in a total of 14 issues since his debut in 2016 until (Spoilers) died in “Daredevil” #600 in 2018. Since no one really dies in mainstream comic books, the character also appears in “Daredevil: Unleash Hell” #1, which hit shelves in January of this year. The fact that Marvel brought the character back into the comics just months before he was due to appear in a major show is probably no coincidence.

There are other villains in the mix in “Born Again” as well. Daredevil would get a rematch against Bullseye, for example. It also seems as if White Tiger will make his live-action debut. But neither was as uniquely violent as Moses.

Muse is very unique among comic book villains in that his alter ego has never been revealed in the comics. Whether or not this changes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains to be seen. What we do know is that he is a sadistic killer who uses art to make grand gestures to the audience, with blood as his signature medium. The media nicknamed him “Vincent Van Goor.” Yes, we’re talking about a blood-painted killer, so let’s not worry about that Marvel Studios will tone down Daredevil despite the move from Netflix to Disney+.

Another interesting thing that makes Moses unique compared to many daredevil villains is that he has actual superpowers. He has superhuman strength as well as super-tuned reflexes, allowing him to catch projectiles thrown at him fairly easily. He also has the interesting ability to be stealthy and imperceptible, as he is able to pull in various sensory information around him, including smells and sounds. This makes him a deadly enemy, as some of his victims in the comics were human. In other words, he is not only capable of killing ordinary humans.

This is, basically, what can be expected from Moses. At least that’s what we can glean from the comics. Marvel Studios often changes characters from page to page. Sometimes it works to the project’s advantage, sometimes it doesn’t. What we do know is that Born Again went through a lot of turmoil behind the scenes, which led to a change in showrunners and directorsas well as getting serious rewrites and extensive reshoots. Hopefully that’s for the best, and with a little luck, it means Muse will get a proper live-action introduction.

The show also includes returning “Daredevil” cast members Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Wilson Bethel (Bull’s Eye), Ayelet Zurer (Vanessa), and Jon Bernthal (The Punisher). Margarita Levieva (“The Assistant”), Zabrina Guevara (“New Amsterdam”), Nikki M. James (“Severance”), Genia Walton (“Candy Cane Lane”), Aarti Vroshan (“Carnival Row”), Clark Johnson (“Evil “) and Michael Gandolfini (“Many Saints of Newark”) round out the group.

Daredevil: Born Again premieres March 4, 2025 on Disney+.
