English club West Ham United announced its separation from technical director Julen Lopetegui.
The Hammers team chose to part ways with David Moyes during the summer in favor of signing a high-level player, but the Spanish national team and the former Spain national team real madrid Coach Lopetegui won only seven of 22 matches during his six months in charge.
Lopetegui’s future was first thrown into question in early December after a miserable start to the season, only for a 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers to buy him more time to try and turn things around.
However, since then, West Ham’s only win has come against bottom club Southampton, with Lopetegui’s last two matches ending 5-0 and 4-1 at the hands of the club. Liverpool and Manchester City respectively.
A statement read: “West Ham United can confirm that coach Julen Lopetegui has left the club today.”
“The first half of the 2024/25 season was not in line with the club’s ambitions and the club has therefore taken action in line with its objectives.
“The club can confirm that assistant coach Pablo Sanz, head of performance Oscar Caro, lead analyst Juan Vicente Peinado, fitness coach Borja de Alba and technical coach Edu Rubio have also left with immediate effect.”
“The Board would like to thank Julen and his staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success for the future.”
West Ham Lopetegui is expected to be replaced by former Chelsea and Brighton coach Graham Potter, who could take charge in time for Friday’s FA Cup clash with Aston Villa.
