Wenger suggests a change to the infiltration base in the “frustration” era

ArsENE WENGER, former Arsenal manager, suggests a change in the infiltration base designed to restore the attacker.

Wenger is the global head of development of the FIFA and believes that VAR has mainly removed this feature of the game.

Nowadays, it is ruled that the player is infiltrated if any part of his body exceeds the last defender.

Wenger would like to see a change through which the player is considered aside if any part of his body is in line with the last defensive player.

The proposal compared to changing a base that was held after the 1990 World Cup.

This championship witnessed an average of 2.21 goals for each match, which is the lowest level in the history of the competition, due to a large -scale base that is an infiltrated striker if he is in line with the last defender before the goalkeeper.

“It was in 1990 after the World Cup in Italy when no goals were scored,” Wenger said, in his interview with BeIN SPORTS.

“We have decided that there is no longer an infiltration when you are on the same line of the cannon.

“In case of doubt, the attacking suspicion is useful. This means when there is a small part, the attacker got the feature.

With VAR this feature disappeared, and for people frustrated for many people.

For this reason I suggested that as long as any part of your body is on the same artillery line, you are not infiltrated.

“We are trying it now. In one year, the decision will be taken, by IFAB, not before.”

Wenger’s proposed change was tried in Italian youth football. Law makers in sports, the International Football Council (IFAB), approved more trials led by FIFA at its annual general meeting in March.

IFAB said that the intention of experiments is to determine whether the proposed changes “enhance football attack and encourage goals scoring while maintaining the game’s attractiveness.”

A decision on proposals can be made in 2026.
