Infosys CEO Salil Parekh has responded to allegations of a toxic work culture raised by a former employee, whose viral LinkedIn post sparked widespread controversy. “At Infosys, we have a clear approach to ensuring that everyone is treated fairly. We hold ourselves to high standards,” Parekh said during a recent conference call.
Bhupendra Vishwakarma, the former chief engineer of the system, raised systemic flaws, regional bias and unhealthy working environment with the company. Despite being the sole breadwinner for his family, he resigned without another job offer. “For three years, I worked hard, met expectations, and contributed to the team, yet I saw no financial recognition for my efforts,” he wrote.
He described how his promotion came with additional responsibilities but no salary increase, which left him feeling disappointed.
Attrition within the company was another major issue highlighted by Vishwakarma. The size of his team was reduced from 50 to 30, yet management chose to redistribute the workload rather than hire replacements. He said: “Instead of appointing replacements or providing support, the administration took the easy path, which is to burden the current team without compensation or appreciation.”
Dedicated to a losing account, Vishwakarma describes limited opportunities for salary increases or career advancement. “The account I was assigned to was a losing account, as my manager admitted. This directly impacts higher salaries and career growth opportunities. Remaining in such an account was tantamount to professional stagnation, with no light at the end of the tunnel,” he wrote, adding that Lack of direction eventually forced him to leave.
The most serious accusation leveled by Vishwakarma was regarding the high-pressure environment at Infosys. He claimed that constant escalations, unrealistic customer demands, and lack of support created chronic stress. “This pressure trickled down, creating pressure at every level of the hierarchy. It felt like a constant state of firefighting, with no room for personal well-being.
He alleged that Infosys prioritized customer demands at the expense of employees’ well-being, contributing to a toxic culture.
