Waymo and Uber will start offering a Robotaxi ride in Atlanta to choose customers who signed earlier this year on a waiting list. The move comes before the companies’ general robotics will launch this summer.
Customers who have been chosen will be notified for early access in the Uber app and via email. Those who choose to ride Robotaxi will be encouraged to make notes during and after the ride. As an additional incentive, the Dragon will get a 10 -dollar Uber balances after their first flight.
Atlanta is the second city that gets the “Waymo on Uber” service. Companies launched the service, which matches the cyclists with Waymo through the Uber app, in Austin this spring.
Uber and Waymo He announced last September It plans to provide the Robotaxi service in Austin and Atlanta in early 2025 as part of an expanded partnership. Under the partnership, only Uber users can launch the independent Jaguar I-Pace fleet.
Like every other city launched by Waymo – a list that includes Los Angeles, Phenix and San Francisco – the service area in Atlanta will grow over time. Waymo and Uber agreed to introduce Robotaxi ride initially in an area of 65 square miles in Atlanta, including city center, Buckhead and Capitol View.
The “Waymo On Uber” service divides the responsibilities of owning and operating a fleet of drivers without driver: Uber charges, maintaining and cleaning independent vehicles, as well as the management of robotics access through its application, while Waymo monitors technology and independent operations, including helping travelers.
