Team India captain Rohit Sharma lightened the mood with a humorous remark about his form during the Champions Trophy 2025 press conference. Rohit Sharma admitted that he was going through a tough phase ahead of the ICC tournament, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan and Dubai.

The BCCI on Saturday, January 18 announced India’s squad for the Champions Trophy. Rohit Sharma will lead the team in the tournament, while Shubman Gill will be his deputy. Before the big event, the Indian national cricket team will play an exciting white-ball series at home against England.

I’ve been in bad shape for the last 3 months, not 6 months: Rohit Sharma

During the press conference, Rohit and Ajit Agarkar answered multiple questions about the team selection and omissions. When Rohit was asked about his recent form, he humorously said that his form has been bad over the past three months, not six, which left fans and journalists bursting into laughter.

Rohit Sharma has had a forgettable 2024 in Test cricket

Rohit had a challenging tour in Australia, scoring just 31 runs in three Tests, with a best score of 10. The 37-year-old dropped himself from the playing XI during the fifth Test in Sydney. He also came under scrutiny for his captaincy as India failed to qualify for the World Test Championship final for the first time.

In 2024, the batsman has scored just 619 runs in 14 Tests at an average of 24.76, with two centuries and two fifties. He performed well in the home series against England, scoring two centuries, but his form faltered in the home series against Bangladesh. The captain could only make a fifty as India suffered a 3-0 defeat.

After a tough few months in Test cricket, the batsman is planning to regain his form in the Ranji Trophy. Rohit has confirmed his availability for Mumbai’s next Ranji match against Jammu and Kashmir, starting January 23. Notably, the BCCI has made domestic cricket mandatory for selection in international cricket.

India schedule for upcoming limited overs cricket series

India’s limited-overs series against England will begin with a five-match T20I series in Kolkata, starting January 22. The second match will be played in Chennai on January 25, followed by Rajkot on January 28. The remaining matches are scheduled to be played in Pune. and Mumbai on January 31 and February 2, respectively.

After the T20Is, India will shift its focus to the ODI series, with the first match scheduled for February 6 in Nagpur. The next matches will be played in Cuttack on February 9 and Ahmedabad on February 13.

After the bilateral series, India will head to Dubai for the Champions Trophy 2025. The Men in Blue, seeded in Group A, will take on Bangladesh in their opening match on February 20. All India’s group stage matches will be hosted in Dubai due to security concerns raised by the Indian government.
