WAID ROUNDUP: How did Charlie Kerk change the conservative media

Zoë Schiffer: Where does this leave the traditional right -wing media, such as Fox News, for example? Is this an alternative to that or is it work side by side?

Jake Lahout: I think it’s more side by side. Fox’s programming was controlled by Kirk’s assassination last night. I think for many of the fundamental Fox characters, and people like Charlie Kerk, and I think at The Turning Point Usa the broader cinematic universe, these younger characters are really important, in fact, to think that many of the most firm media hosts every night. This is also an interesting thing, because the Democrats were trying to copy this for a while, and as we mentioned earlier, traditional wisdom has seen that Democrats will always have this advantage for young voters. So I think it’s interesting to see what will become Turning Point Usa after this; After that, to what extent can this door be eaten only with a personality with a different type of profile, a different type of charisma, and perhaps more extreme in some issues. So there is a very legal vacuum, almost opened here because it was a unique character in this aspect of conservative policy.

Zoë Schiffer: definitely. So the creation of a new branch of the right -wing media directed at a younger audience is definitely a major part of the Kirk legacy. There is also the legacy he left in politics in general, such as his speech towards converts, immigrants, and his rhetoric to abortion rights. These things really stick to me. Talk to me about that, that imprint that he might have left.

Jake Lahout: Yes, I think a fingerprint has some contradictions that we see in the wake of this terrible accident. Certainly, this is the holy method that is drawn after his death, and I think part of this is that he was organized and not a candidate, so he never got a kind of scrutiny or had to make really difficult options. He has always been more in the world of interest economy, the field of donation, and voter turnout. So I now think that it is often remembered because of its real commitment to the freedom of discussion and the desire to obtain uncomfortable reactions with people who may not talk to each other or do not agree to politics. But then, you have a lot of things he said about controlling weapons, for example, it is really worth getting a degree of weapons deaths, to reformulate what he said here, in order to protect the second amendment. He was asked once if one of his daughters, which was 10 years old, was that if she was sexually assaulted and became pregnant, does he want her to carry pregnancy? This is a thread of his legacy that I think deserves to be followed, because it was really just a sensation in universities.
