Vinfast, the Vietnamese electric car manufacturer, has officially started production at its new factory in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. This development is part of a $ 2 billion investment strategy aimed at expanding their presence in the Asian market, specifically targeting India as a central axis.

The facility, which represents a preliminary investment of $ 500 million, is scheduled to produce 50,000 electric cars annually. It has the ability to increase production to 150,000 cars, and benefit from its strategic location near a major port, which helps in future regional exports. The factory is expected to generate more than 3000 jobs in the local region, which contributes significantly to the local economy.

This step by Vinfast is a strategic transformation towards Asia after facing challenges in creating a western market such as the United States and Europe. The company is also expanding its scope in other Asian countries, such as Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, with a collection factory in Indonesia that is also scheduled to produce 50,000 cars annually.

The decision to establish the factory in Tamil Nadu was affected by manufacturing capabilities in the region, the availability of skilled workers and strong infrastructure. The Minister of Industries in Tamil Nadu highlighted the capabilities of this investment, saying: “This investment will lead to a completely new industrial group in South Tamil Nadu, and more groups are what India needs to appear as a global manufacturing center.”

The Indian factory not only aims to serve the local market, but also aims to set an export center. Orders have already been received from countries such as Sri Lanka, Nepal and Mauritius. The CEO of Vinfast in Asia pointed out the attention of other manufacturers in transporting production to India, noting, “We also have an investigation from the (manufacturer in) Vietnam who loves to transfer its plastic production to support our car.”

Vinfast’s ambition is emphasized through the global delivery goal that aims to 200,000 vehicles for the year 2025. In the first half of this year, the company sold about 72,100 units, mostly in Vietnam. Vinfast’s expansion in India is an important component of the company’s strategy to increase its market share in the fast -growing electric car sector.

India is the third largest car market in the world, with an increasing and increasing economy for electric cars.

It also opened its largest showroom in India, in Chennai. The 4,700 square feet showroom is located in TEYNAMPET, its largest facility from 35 showrooms expected to be opened this year. Vinfast’s distinct electrical SUVs will display, including VF 6 and VF 7.
