The Trump administration imposes sanctions on the United Nations human rights decision, Francesca Albaniz, an explicit critic of Israel’s military attack in Gaza.
Foreign Minister Marco Rubio has linked the transfer to her support for the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has already been punished by some judges by the United States.
Rubio said that the United States is punishing Albanez for directly engaging with the International Criminal Court in its efforts to prosecute American or Israeli citizens, accusing it of being unable to serve as a special relationship for the United Nations.
It is possible that the sanctions are prohibited from traveling to the United States and will prevent any assets in the country.
This is the latest escalation by the Trump administration because it launches a campaign against the International Criminal Court, after it has already imposed four of its judges.
The United States took the lawsuit after the court last year issued arrest orders for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his then -then -minister, Yov Galen, for the alleged war crimes in Gaza, accusations they reject.
Rubio Albaniz also accused of “taking out the anti -Semitism without shame, and expressed its support for terrorism and the open contempt of the United States, Israel and the West.”
This step is likely to raise a violent reaction from those who are accountable to the death of civilians from the Israeli military attack in Gaza.
The Special Rapporteur has long argued that Western governments are not doing enough to support the rights of Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Her explicit position attracted great support among those accusing Israeli and United States leaders of accusing weapons of anti -Semitism in order to silence their policies.
Its critics have referred to the language used in the past by Albanez, including the 2014 comment when she suggested that the “Jewish lobby” affects the decisions of the US government when it comes to Israel and the Palestinians.
Since then, she said that she said she regretted observation, but she rejected allegations that she was anti -Semitic.
Amnesty International and former United Nations Private Competition, Agnes Callamard, said that she was dismayed by the decision of Albannis.
She said: “Governments around the world and all actors that believe in the system based on international rules and law should do everything in their power to alleviate the impact of sanctions against Francesca Albans.”
Rubio said that Albanez showed contempt for the United States by writing “threatening messages” to several American companies, as he made what he called unfounded accusations and recommending the International Criminal Court to follow up on the prosecutions of companies and their executives.
“We will not tolerate the political and economic war campaigns, which threaten our national interests and sovereignty,” said Rubio.
Earlier this month Albaniz He invited dozens of multinationals To stop dealing with Israel, they warned them that they risked cooperation in the war crimes in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
She said that the companies “benefited from the Israeli economy for the illegal occupation, racist separation, and now genocide” in the occupied Palestinian territories. Israel rejected its report as “unfounded”, saying that “it will join the tip of history.”
Albanez criticized Donald Trump’s plan, which was announced in February, the seizure of the Gaza Strip and the supply of its residents elsewhere.
She said in February: “It is illegal and immoral and … not completely responsible because it will make the regional crisis worse,” she said in February.
The timing of the sanctions declaration is noticeable with Netanyahu currently in Washington, where it received an honorary collar in the Pentagon on Wednesday.
Albaniz has previously rejected similar claims against it, and I told BBC in October: “I do not take these notes and defamation that they carry lightly, but at the same time, I know this is not about me, because my breaths knew that it was not related to them.
“I also know that these member states (which prevent the accusations of anti -Semitism) have never done anything to abide by international law.”
Its office was contacted to comment.
There are about 125 countries of the Parties in the Rome Law, which established and protected the International Criminal Court, as well as obligating its membership to support the court’s decisions.
The United States, like Israel, is not a member of the court.
He stood with Israel, its strong ally, who was arranged during the Gaza war, against the Natanahu arrest warrant, while many European countries said that it respects the independence of the court in the case.
The Israeli army launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas -led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others took hostage.
At least 57,575 people have been killed in Gaza since then, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health in the region.
Most of the people of Gaza were displaced several times. More than 90 % of homes are estimated at damage or destruction; Healthcare, water, sanitation and hygiene systems collapsed; There is a lack of food, fuel, medicine and shelter.
