US intelligence agencies have focused closely on Greenland in the past few weeks, driven by President Trump’s interest in obtaining Al -Jazeera and Vice President JD Vance to an American military base there, according to many American officials.

The officials said that an increasing number of intelligence reports on Greenland were included in the information distributed in the executive branch and the Congress.

The increasing analytical focus by a number of intelligence agencies comes because Mr. Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to obtain the island, saying it is vital to national security. Greenland is strategically located in the circle in the Arctic and has huge stores of rare ground minerals.

Danish officials’ reaction was negative to News reports From the consecutive intelligence group in Greenland, the country’s self -government area. The American ambassador to Denmark was summoned to a meeting, threatening the Danish government to close the consulate, and the Foreign Minister condemned an effort by the United States to spy on Denmark, NATO ally.

The current and previous officials said that some recent intelligence reports focused on Russian or Chinese interest on the island. They added that the White House remained concerned about the Arctic security and the infringement of China and Russia for American interests.

Some officials said that it seems that many recent intelligence work is based on open source intelligence, not the classified materials.

Officials who were interviewed in this article spoke on the condition that his identity is not disclosed due to the sensitive nature of the priorities of intelligence and the repeated threats of the Trump administration of leakage investigations.

There was no major shift in the intelligence group. Officials expect that the agencies will focus more on Greenland in the coming months, but they do not expect a large re -allocation to intelligence officers or reconnaissance satellites to the island.

Greenland’s population is small, about 57,000, and to redirect assets of collection of senior management priorities such as China or the southern American border will be a waste, according to officials.

However, they said they expect more work in Greenland and its inhabitants.

The Office of the National Intelligence Director sent a “confirmation message to collect” to many intelligence agencies last week, to remind managers of Mr. Trump’s interest in Greenland. The memo that was It was reported earlier by the Wall Street Journal, Request to obtain information about the Greenland Independence Movement and public positions on American resources extraction.

Former officials said that the assembly on these priorities was likely to include further examination of open source intelligence instead of placing officers on the island to infiltrate political organizations.

There is great support for independence in Greenland. While Denmark controls Greenland and Defense foreign policy, the island has great independence. But it relies heavily on Denmark, which provides the benefits that represent it 20 percent of Greenland GDP.

After the magazine published its article, the officials said that the investigation of the leakage was ongoing. “The actors in the deep state” have issued information and were undermining US security.

Since his return to the presidency, Mr. Trump has been consistent with his desire to obtain Greenland. He said in his speech to Congress in March: “We need Greenland for national security and even international security, and we are working with all concerned to try to obtain it,” he said in his speech to Congress in March. “One way or another, we will get it.”
