SpaceX launched 28 Starlink V2 Mini satellites into orbit aboard its Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Station in Florida on Sunday morning.
United Airlines’ first major Starlink-equipped flight is ready for takeoff.
United Airlines announced that Flight 2940 takes off Wednesday from Newark/New York to Houston, “marking the first time a major U.S. airline has offered Starlink Wi-Fi on a major flight with connectivity across both personal devices and in-flight entertainment screens.”
United plans to install Elon Musk’s Starlink “on up to 15 737-800 flagships each month,” according to a press release. More than half of the company’s regional fleet already offers Starlink service to customers, following its launch in May.
“We are committed to raising the bar when it comes to the in-flight experience, and with Starlink, we are changing the way people fly,” David Kinzelman, United’s chief customer officer, said in a statement.

“Whether it’s watching a live game, streaming an awards show, or working, United customers won’t miss a thing when they’re on a Starlink-equipped flight,” he said.

The airline plans to expand Starlink to include additional aircraft types by the end of the year.
Access to Starlink will be free for all customers who are part of the airline’s MileagePlus loyalty program.

Starlink, a unit of SpaceX, has signed deals with several airlines to provide in-flight internet services as it seeks to expand its reach beyond consumers and families in rural areas around the world that have little internet access.
