UN Rapporteur calls on global measures to stop the “genocide” of Israel in Gaza | United Nations News

Francesca Albaniz delegates from 30 countries to discuss the ways in which countries can try to stop the Israeli attack.

The United Nations private relationship with the occupied Palestinian territories said that the time has come for countries all over the world to take concrete measures to stop the “genocide” of Israel in Gaza.

Francesca Albaniz spoke to delegates from 30 meetings in the capital of Colombia, Bogota, on Tuesday to discuss the brutal attack of Israel and the roads that countries could try to stop the attack in the besieged pocket.

Many participating countries described the Israel war on Gaza as a Genocide against the Palestinians.

More than 58,000 people have been killed since Israel launched the attack in October 2023, according to the Palestinian health authorities. The Israeli forces also imposed many total blockade on the region throughout the war, prompting the 2.3 million people of Gaza to the brink of hunger.

“Each state has a review immediately, to suspend all relations with the state of Israel … and to ensure that its private sector does the same,” Albaniz said. “The Israeli economy is organized to preserve the occupation, which has now turned into genocide.”

The conference is attended by two days organized by Colombia and South Africa mostly by developing countries, although Spain, Ireland and China have also sent two delegates.

The conference participates in the Presidency of South Africa and Colombia, which last year suspended coal exports to Israeli energy stations. The participation of the members of the Hague Group, which is an alliance of eight countries that pledged earlier this year to cut military relations with Israel and comply with The arrest of the International Criminal Court Against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

For decades, the ruling African National Congress Party in South Africa has compared Israel’s policies in Gaza and the West Bank with its history of persecution in light of the harsh apartheid regime of the rule of white minorities, which restricts most blacks in areas called “Al -Watan”, before ending in 1994.

This gathering comes at a time when the European Union weighs various measures against Israel, which includes a ban on imports of illegal Israeli settlements, the arms embargo and individual sanctions against Israeli officials who found a peaceful solution to the conflict.

Colombian Deputy Foreign Affairs Moresio Jarmello said on Monday that the countries participating in the Bogota meeting, which also includes Qatar and Turkish, will discuss diplomatic and judicial measures to receive more pressure on Israel to stop its attacks.

The Colombian official described Israel’s behavior in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as an insult to the international matter.

“This is not only about Palestine,” Jaramilo told a news conference. “It is related to defending international law and the right to self -determination.”

The comments of the Special Rapporteur Albaniz echoed the statements made earlier on Tuesday to the European Union. Bloc’s foreign ministers were gathering in Brussels to discuss potential measures against Israel.

In a series of publications on X, Albaniz wrote that the European Union was “legally obligated” to suspend its connection with Israel, noting its obligations under international law.

Albaniz said that the European Union is not only a commercial partner in Israel, but also its supreme investment partner, and they double the size of the United States, and “trade with the economy related to an irreplaceable association with the occupation, the apartheid and the genocide is collusion.”
