Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrei Sibha said on Saturday that Ukraine and its allies are ready for a “unconditional shooting” with Russia for at least 30 days starting on Monday.
His remarks came when the leaders of four major European countries visited Kiev, amid Moscow pushed to agree to the truce and launch peace talks to end the war of approximately three years. They followed what Siba said was a “constructive” phone call, including US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Voludmir Zelinsky.
Saturday is also the last day of unilateral shooting fire announced by Russia. Ukraine accuses the Kremlin forces of violating the ceasefire again and again.
In March, the United States suggested an immediate limited truce for 30 days, which accepted Ukraine, but the Kremlin had withstood better conditions.
On Saturday, the four European leaders arrived at the train station in Kiev and met Zelinski after a short period to join the independence field ceremony, which represents the eighty anniversary of the end of World War II. They lit the candles in a memorial for temporary science of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians who have fallen since Russia’s invasion on February 24, 2022.
This is the first time that the four European countries have traveled together to Ukraine. For Friedrich Mirz, it is his first visit to Ukraine as a new advisor in Germany.
“We repeat our support for President Trump’s call for a peace agreement and inviting Russia to stop obstructing the efforts made to secure permanent peace,” the leaders said in a joint statement.
“Besides the United States, we call on Russia to agree (on) a 30 -day and unconditional ceasefire to create space for talks on a just and lasting peace.”
There was no immediate response from Moscow about the ceasefire call.
Russia has maintained attacks along the front line about 1,600 km, including deadly strikes in residential areas.
On Thursday, Sibaha described a three -day ceasefire, Russia announced that it was a “farce”, accusing Russian forces of violating more than 700 times in one day of officially starting. On the same day, the two sides also said that the attacks on their forces continued.
While the United States is trying to push Ukraine towards a ceasefire, Russia appears to be heading in the opposite direction. On Saturday morning, local officials in the northern Sumi region of Ukraine said that the Russian bombing over the past day resulted in the killing of three residents and four others. Another civilian man died on Saturday, while a Russian drone hit the southern city of Jupson, according to regional ruler Olikander Brocodine.
Speaking to the journalists in Kiev, French President Emmanuel Macron said: “What is happening with Poland, Germany and Great Britain is a historical moment for European defense and sweeps greater independence for our security. It is clear, for Ukraine and all of us.
Trump said last week that he doubts that Russian President Vladimir Putin wanted to end his war in Ukraine, expressing new doubts that a peace agreement can be reached soon, and alluded to more sanctions against Russia.
