Ukraine celebrated its independence from the Soviet Union on Sunday, three and a half years after the war that killed tens of thousands of people and left nearly five of the countries occupied by the Russian forces. Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski told Kiev that the country would fight, saying that his calls for peace had been “ignored” by Moscow.
