Russian military bloggers say the attack did not succeed, as the main bridge operates after a short closure.

The SBU security service in Ukraine said it struck the road bridge and the railway bridge that connects Russia and the boiled Crimea in Ukraine below the water level with explosives, in its third attack on the main supply line of the Russian forces in the country that is flattened by the war.

The SBU statement said that about 1,100 kg (2420 pounds) of explosives were detonated on Tuesday morning to destroy the underwater bridge columns over the Kerch Strait in a process that was prepared over several months.

“Previously, we got to the Crimea Bridge twice, in 2022 and 2023. So today we continued this underwater tradition.” “The bridge is now in an emergency.”

SBU shared the video footage that it claimed to show an explosion next to one of the numerous support pillars of the bridge.

Russian military bloggers said the attack did not succeed and speculated that it was implemented by a light sea plane.

The official Russian port, which provides regular status updates on the bridge, said that his work had been suspended for three hours between 4 am and 7 am local time (01:00 and 04:00 GMT).

He did not give any reason for temporary closure, but he said that the bridge was reopened and was working as usual.

The 19 km (12 km) Crimea Bridge on the Kerch Strait is the only direct link between the transport network in Russia and the Peninsula of Crimea, which Moscow annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

The bridge was a major project for Russian President Vladimir Putin. It consists of a separate road and railways, with the support of concrete pillars, which give way to a broader period of steel arches at the point where the ships pass between the Black Sea and the smaller Azov Sea.

The bridge was used by the Russian forces during its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, when they crossed it to reach the Crimea and from there they went to seize parts of South South Jeresson and southeast of Zaporesia.

Russia’s attack in Ukraine

The city council and the Ministry of Health said that the attack comes at a time when the Russian forces targeted the Ukrainian city of Sumi, killing at least three people and leaving many of the injured.

Ukraine President Voludmir Zelinski said at least one missile was launched from a multiple missile launcher that failed to detonate and present it in a residential building.

Commenting on the attack, Zelenskyy said on Telegram: “This is all that one needs to know about the Russian desire to end this war.”

On Monday, Russia told Ukraine peace talks in Istanbul that it would only agree to end the war if Kiev abandons large pieces of land and accepts borders the size of its army. Ukraine has repeatedly rejected Russian conditions as a surrender.
