UK ministers will re -support consumers to some electric cars through a new scheme worth 650 million pounds, as they try to increase sales of batteries that are still delayed from government targets.
Families will receive a discount of up to 3750 pounds per vehicle when they buy a new Electric car Its price is less than 37,000 pounds, according to a program announced on Tuesday, which will include 63 million pounds of financing for charger installations.
The previous conservative government canceled the incentives for the direct purchase of the battery -based models in 2022, on the pretext that the market has matured enough.
But the industry has repeatedly called for more financial assistance To encourage EV purchases.
Heidi Alexander, Minister of Labor Transport, said she wanted to make it “easier and cheaper” to buy and manage EV.
The maximum price means that the most expensive brands such as Elon Musk’s Tesla will be excluded, while some cars made in China will not qualify also due to emissions produced in the manufacturing process.
The average price of EV in the United Kingdom last year was 49,000 pounds, which means that most of the cars currently offered will not be eligible – although industry numbers said that the new most affordable new models are launched.
Officials said they expect “tens of thousands” of grants be issued every year-much less than 40,000 EVS, which is sold every year.
Civilism will also rely on whether auto makers are “the highest standards of sustainability,” which are standards aimed at preferring British -made models, according to officials.
Cars, which are “Greenst”, will receive a discount of up to 3,750 pounds, while others will get a lesser range of up to 1500 pounds. The third band, which includes most Chinese Chinese cars, will not receive any support.
Each model will be classified according to the carbon emissions of the country’s electricity network or major production stages.
Manufacturers must have a zero net goal for their permitted models in the plan.
The government said: “The final environmental result allocated to each vehicle model reflects two phases of vehicle production: vehicle assembly … and battery production,” the government said.
The United Kingdom previously provided the purchase of EV at a value of 5,000 pounds in 2011 on vehicles of up to 35,000 pounds, a support level that was gradually reduced to 1500 pounds in 2021 before it was completely canceled the following year.
The new financing that will be announced on Tuesday will remain in place until 2029, and car makers must apply for EVS to be part of the plan from Wednesday. The primary pricing of their new grant models will be evaluated. The scheme does not include EVS used.
In the spending review in June, Chancellor Rachel Reeves allocated about 1.4 billion pounds to support the continued absorption of electric cars, including trucks and heavy cargo cars.
EVS was 21.5 per cent of new car sales in the United Kingdom in the first six months of the year, as car makers Renault, Stelantis and China BYD have launched a series of compromises at reasonable prices. But this is still less than 28 percent of this year under the governmental authorization of EV.
There are currently 36 new models for electric cars available from less than 30,000 pounds. These EVS cost on average 22 percent more than its gasoline equation, according to Auto Trader, an online market.
Depending on the current sales and path, the offer of information technology is that only 45 percent of new car sales in the UK will be EVS by 2030 – much lower than 80 % of this date.
“The government support announced today has a tendency to bridge the ability to withstand current costs and assist the democratic EVS in the collective market,” said Ian Plammer, Auto Trader.
Car makers called for a form of the subsidized purchase plan because the previous scheme has been destroyed, although EV supporters say that the government’s goals are now investigating after it has made it easy to hit.
“This announcement is a welcome response to the consistent calls from the industry to obtain more support,” said Mike Hazi, CEO of the Automobile Manufacturers Association.
The Ministry of Transport said that 2024 was a “record year to switch to Electric”, with 382,000 EVS and the addition of approximately 20,000 year to the network.
