Uber accelerates its pushing to self -navigation, with plans to expand its hybrid network of self -driving and humans around the world. Speaking at a press conference, Andrew McDonald, the first vice president of commercial and commercial operations in Uber, highlighted the company’s increasing commitment to independent technology and how its platform can help bring self -driving vehicles to the masses.
In December 2024, Uber ride autonomous vehicles in Abu Dhabi in partnership with Ferid, which represents the first publication of itself outside the United States. Weide has since identified plans to expand its fleet in the Middle East to 50 autonomous vehicles by mid -2015, an important landmark of the region. On the delivery interface, Uber also lives in 11 cities with six AV partners, which enhances its presence in the automatic logistical space.
McDonald emphasized that although independent vehicle technology (AV) is progressing quickly, large -scale marketing still requires many main elements of alignment. “It is not only a technology, but the extraordinary safety record, organizational approvals, developmentable operations, cost -effective devices, and high -use network are all decisive to success.”
One of the main challenges is to adopt AV in an unpredictable nature to demand a riding riding, which fluctuates at the time of the day, week and season. A fully independent fleet without elasticity can lead to either unparalleled compounds within hours outside peak times or an unreliable network during the peak demand.
This is where the Uber hybrid AV-Human driver model plays an important role, allowing self-driving cars to work efficiently while human drivers fill the demand gaps.
“Independent AV companies face great obstacles in meeting the changing demand. Partnership with Uber allows AV companies to reach a flexible and high -use network, helping them to go to the market much faster than they can on their own,” McDonald explained.
