An unidentified gunman killed two prominent judges outside Iran’s Supreme Court on Saturday in what authorities described as a terrorist attack, according to state media.
The attacker opened fire in a square near the headquarters of the Supreme Court in the capital, Tehran The Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
A statement by the judiciary published by official media stated that judges Ali Rezini and Muhammad Muqais had a long career and presided over cases related to national security, espionage, and terrorism.
Both were presidents of branches of the Supreme Court. A third judge was injured in the attack.
The Iranian judiciary described the incident as a terrorist attack, and the shootings as targeted assassinations. According to balanceanother government news outlet
Mizan stated that the attacker killed himself before the police could arrest him. The police opened an investigation.
