president Donald Trump On Wednesday, Iran threatened to impose “high levels” of sanctions on it Russia Customs duties will be imposed on imports from there if the country does not reach a settlement that ends its lifespan of about three years war against Ukraine.

Trump’s warning, which he posted on social media on his third day as president, called out Russian President Vladimir Putin by name.

He added: “If we don’t make a deal, and soon, I have no other choice but to impose high levels of taxes, tariffs and sanctions on anything Russia sells to the United States and various other participating countries.” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Let’s end this war, which would never have started if I were president! We can do it the easy way, or the hard way – and the easy way is always better,” Trump wrote.

“It’s time to make a deal.” No more lives should be lost!!!”

Trump has repeatedly said that he can end the war in Ukraine in one day if he is elected to a second non-consecutive term in the White House. The war began in February 2022 with a Russian invasion.

“They are dying, the Russians and the Ukrainians,” he said in May 2023. “I want them to stop dying. And I will do it — I will do it within 24 hours.”

That did not happen following his inauguration on Monday.

But Trump’s letter to Russia on Wednesday revealed his intention to deploy economic weapons against that country similar to those he threatened against US allies such as Mexico and Canada if those countries did not submit to his will.

“I’m not looking to hurt Russia. I love the Russian people, and have always had a very good relationship with President Putin – and this despite the radical left’s Russia, Russia, Russia hoax,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “We must never forget that Russia helped us win World War II, losing nearly 60 million lives in the process.”

“All that said, I will be doing Russia, whose economy is collapsing, a big favor, and President Putin. Settle down now, and stop this ridiculous war!” Trump wrote.

“It’s going to get worse.”

Trump’s claim of Russian losses in World War II is significantly higher than expert estimates.

National World War II Museum New Orleans says the total number of military and civilian casualties in the Soviet Union during the war was 24 million.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in December that 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers were killed during the fighting and another 370,000 were wounded.

Zelensky also said Ukraine estimates 198,000 Russian soldiers were killed and more than 550,000 wounded.
