US President Donald Trump has signed a draft law prohibiting the so -called “Respect Porn”, including images created using artificial intelligence.

The Take It download law, which was signed on Monday, makes a federal crime to publish intimate pictures of a person without their consent, and requires social media platforms to remove these photos within 48 hours when the victims are requested.

The legislation, which was approved by the US Congress earlier this year with an unlimited support, applies to AI-realistic appearance, known as “Deepfakes”, as well as real images.

“With the generation of Amnesty International’s generation, countless women are harassing Deepfakes and other explicit photos distributed on their will. This is a mistake … a very terrible mistake,” Trump said at a signing ceremony at the White House in Washington, DC.

“It is a very offensive situation … Today we make it completely illegal.”

The first lady, Melania Trump, who defended the legislation after her husband returning to the White House, described the law as “a strong step forward in our efforts to ensure that every American, especially young people, can feel better protection than their image or identity.”

While enjoying rare support from the two parties and supporting many organizations for combating sexual harassment and assault, the legislation has sparked criticism from digital rights groups on the basis of privacy and the fight against pure.

The Electronic Borders Corporation said that the provisions of the law to remove the materials that have been marked from the Internet are risks to “freedom of expression, user privacy and legal procedures, without addressing the problem that it claims to solve.”

The group said in a statement issued in February: “The legal content – including irony, press and political speech – may be subject to the wrong.”

“The narrow time frame of legislation requires that applications and web sites be removed within 48 hours, which means that service providers, especially the smaller framework, will have to comply very quickly to avoid legal risks that will not be able to verify claims.
