US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States will impose a “very severe tariff” on Russia in 50 days if there is no deal to stop the war in Ukraine.
Trump announced what he said will be a 100 % tariff during his meeting with correspondents, along with NATO Secretary -General Mark Retti at the Oval Office in Washington, DC.
Trump said they will be a “secondary tariff”, which means that they will target trading partners in Russia in an attempt to isolate Moscow in the global economy. The direct trade between Washington and Moscow has declined since Russia has launched its invasion in early 2022.
Trump also said that the United States will send military aid to help Ukraine with its war effort, but NATO members, not American taxpayers, will cover the cost of weapons.
“We will prepare weapons from the best line, and will be sent to NATO,” he said.
