Trump publishes the National Guard in Washington, DC and entrusted the crime campaign

President Donald Trump deployed the National Guard in Washington, DC and took control of the city’s police force, pledging to abandon crime and displacement in the country’s capital.

Trump declared a “public safety emergency” on Monday, with 800 National Guard soldiers who boost hundreds of federal law enforcement officers deployed during the weekend.

“It has become a complete position of chaos,” he told reporters at the White House.

The mayor of the city, Morel Bousser, rejected the president’s demands about the crime, and although there was an increase in 2023, the statistics show that they have fallen since then. Violent crime in the city is also at its lowest level for 30 years.

“I have announced a historic procedure to save our nation’s capital from crime, bloodshed, Bedouins, and the worst,” Trump said at a press conference surrounded by US Public Prosecutor Bam Bondi, who will lead the city police force during federal control.

“This is the liberation day in the capital, and we will return our capital,” he said.

Trump said that Washington, DC, “acquired violent gangs and thirsty criminals” as well as “the drug of crazy people and people who have no shelter.”

According to data from the city police administration in the city, murders have decreased by 32 percent between 2023 and 2024 and reached its lowest level since 2019.

There was another significant decrease this year 12 percent, as data appears.

Mayor Bousser, a democratic, admitted the existence of a “terrible” height in the crime in 2023, which reflected a national trend, but was pushed back in any demanding that there is shutter in the city.

“We are not facing an increase in the crime,” she told MSNBC on Sunday. “The president is completely aware of our efforts.”

In a statement, the army said that among the 800 National Guard soldiers who will be activated, between 100 to 200 will be deployed and law enforcement support at any time.

Former President Richard Nixon established this law to allow the residents of Washington, DC – the only American city that is not in any of the fifty states – to elect the city council and a mayor.

But it also contains a warning that allows the president to control the city’s police force in the event of “special conditions for the nature of the emergency.”

If the president intends to control for more than 48 hours, they need to make a written notice of Congress. Even if this notice is presented, they will not be able to keep the police control for more than 30 days.

On Sunday, when he was asked about the possibility of controlling the president in the city police station, the mayor Bousser said: “There are very specific things in our law that allows (this). These conditions are not in our city now.”

She said she was “anxious” about the National Guard to impose local laws.

Bousser presented a press conference later on Monday, which said that the president’s order was “annoying and unprecedented.”

She said that Trump’s view of the city “was formed through his famous experience during his first term”, which she confessed to was “difficult times” for the region.

She said: “It is true that we have seen a rise in the crime after we witnessed.”

“We have worked quickly to put the laws that obtained the violent perpetrators from our streets,” she added. “We have seen a significant decrease in the crime due to these efforts.”

In addition to the crime, Trump also talked about the displacement in Washington, DC.

He said: “We get rid of the poor neighborhoods.” He said that the homeless will be sent to another place, but they did not say where.

“Everything should be perfect” when he visits the city’s personalities and leaders.

“It is a very strong reflection of our country,” he said. “If our capital is dirty, then our country is all dirty and does not respect us.”

Local groups working with the homeless in the capital told the BBC that they have already seen progress in recent years.

He also said that Trump’s proposal to move people from the city was not a long -term solution.

He also responded to the anger of a former employee of the Ministry of Governmental efficiency (DOGE), who was attacked recently in the city.

During the press conference on Monday, Trump said that the employee “was brutally beaten by a group of street thugs” and was “leaving the blood.”

He also mentioned other federal government employees and elected officials who were attacked, including the democratic legislator and a trainee.

“This is a threat to America,” Trump said.

It was the first time that Trump has published the National Guard in June, when 2000 national guards ordered to Los Angeles to deal with unrest on the raids on illegal immigrants.

The last time the National Guard was deployed in Washington, DC, in response to the work of the Capitol in 2021.
