Trump prohibits citizens of 12 countries to travel to the United States

The Trump administration signed an advertisement on Wednesday, suspending travel to the United States for citizens from 12 countries: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

Quoting the interests of national security, the announcement states that the specific countries lack the adequate audit and examination operations necessary to reveal foreign citizens who may pose safety or terrorism threats to the United States

The advertisement is also partially restricted to citizens of seven other countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.

Other considerations include information exchange policies in a country, the presence of terrorists, and the visa transgression rates and whether the citizens who are sent again are acceptable.

The decision was based on the information provided by the US Secretary of State, in coordination with the American Prosecutor, Minister of Internal Security, and Director of National Intelligence, according to the announcement.

The policy reflects a similar travel ban that was announced in January 2017, one week in Trump’s first state, which banned travel from seven countries with an Islamic majority. This policy, despite its great criticism, was ultimately supported by the Supreme Court in 2018.

This ban was later ended by President Joe Biden in 2021.

The new policy applies to foreigners from the countries specified outside the United States, which lacks visas to enter from Monday 9 June.
