The administration of US President Donald Trump plans Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and other major American spy units, according to the Washington Post, in a move seen as part of his attempt to reduce the size of the main government agencies.
The Central Intelligence Agency plans to reduce 1,200 jobs, along with other thousands of other parts of the American Intelligence community, the newspaper said on Friday.
The report added that the members of Congress have been informed of the planned cuts, which will take place over several years and are partially accomplished through a decrease in employment instead of the demobilization of workers.
When asked about the report, the agency’s spokesperson did not confirm the details, but he said that the director of the CIA, John Ratcliffe, “is moving quickly to ensure the response of the workforce at the CIA’s response to the National Security Priorities of the Administration.”
The spokesman also said: “These moves are part of a comprehensive strategy to stimulate the agency with renewable energy, provide opportunities for the growing leaders to appear, and the CIA’s best position to provide its mission,” the spokesman also said.
Trump appointed Ratcliffe, who was sworn in as director of the CIA in January, previously told legislators that, under his leadership, the agency “will produce an insight or objective analysis and fully sources, and never allows political or personal biases for governing or affecting our products.”
He said: “We will collect intelligence, especially human intelligence, in every corner of the world, regardless of the extent of darkness or difficulty,” as well as “conducting secret work in the direction of the president, and going to places that no one can do and do things that no one can do.”
He said: “If all of this seems to be as if it was not involved in it, then link it and prepare to make a difference. If this does not happen, then it is time to find a new line of work.”
In March, the CIA also announced that it would launch an unspecified number of novice officers as part of a policy of reducing the size of the Trump government.
A spokesman for the agency said that these officers who suffer from behavioral issues or who are considered a bad occasion for intelligence work will be demobilized, noting that it is not proven that everyone is able to deal with job pressure.
In February, the Central Intelligence Agency also offered to some employees. It was not clear the number of employees who accepted the offer.
