Dubai, unites the United Arab Emirates – President Donald TrumpIt is said that the administration’s administration is planning to announce that the United States will invite the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Gulf or the Gulf of the Arabian Peninsula, a step that the Arab Gulf leaders welcomes and may attract anger from Iran.
The development was reported by the Associated Press, citing an unveiled American officials, and it is scheduled to be timed for Trump’s visit in the Middle East from May 13 to 16, and during that time it will stop in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The name of the water body – a major shipping lane sitting between the southern Iranian coast and the coasts of the Arab countries in Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar – has long been a competing point, as several Arab countries spent years in order to change from the Persians to Arab. The region has been widely named in the Persian Gulf nearly the eighteenth century, although it is referred to as the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Gulf in many Arab countries.
The US Central Command uses its publications and data the name of the Gulf of the Arabian Peninsula, while the Foreign Ministry and the Central Intelligence Agency have used the Persian Gulf so far.
Google is planning the “Persian Gulf (Arab Gulf)” region, while it is called Apple maps and American news outlets, including NBC News and Associated Press, to be called the Persian Gulf.
Iran, in 2012, threatened the home of the former Persian Empire, to sue Google for not completely naming the water body to its maps.
The White House did not immediately respond to the CNBC request for comment. The Trump administration participated in indirect talks with Iranian officials on the Iranian nuclear program.
