CTUS-SKM, a platform for ten central workers ’unions and Samuk Kisan Moresha, has announced a protest at the country level on August 13 against US President Donald Trump’s threats and the comprehensive economic trade agreement (CETA).

In a statement, CTUS-SKM condemned Trump’s threats to impose tariff fees of 25 percent on India and punitive taxes related to the commercial agreement with Russia. The platform invited farmers, workers, students and citizens to participate in the day of resistance through tractors and motorcycle gatherings, protest demonstrations, and public gatherings.

The group demanded that India reject Trump’s tariff threats and support its sovereign right to trade with all countries, including Russia. He also called for an immediate review and amendment of CETA India.

CTUS-SKM has emphasized the need to stop all negotiations related to a commercial deal for the United States to prevent further exploitation of companies. They insisted that there are no secret commercial agreements and that all future deals are subject to full parliamentary scrutiny and public consultation.

The statement compared the colonization of the India East India Company through trade with the current commercial deals of CETA and the United States, describing it as tools for corporate imperialism. On August 13, farmers and workers will protest against the defense of sovereignty and freedom, opposing economic coercion aimed at controlling the trade relations of India, including Russia.

The platform criticized the American commercial policies to demand open markets for American companies while using the customs tariff to pressure sovereign countries. She expressed concern about the Indian government to present these threats, and considered them as increasing for Western imperialist interests.

CTUS-SKM said that the government’s silence on these issues indicates that ready to relinquish the strategic independence of India in favor of the United States of America. They warned that this may lead to an agreement for India and the United States, exploiting, allowing American agricultural business companies to reach dairy and agriculture sectors in India, which can collapse prices, harm farmers, and threaten food security.

The group also indicated that such deals can cause manufacturing and high unemployment in India. Ceta described India and the Agency as a direct attack on food security in India, health care and economic self -reliance.
