TPUSA’s campus tour attracts conservative students for the first time in North Dakota

Several students told Fox News Digital on Thursday that the recent Turning Point USA rally was their first Governor eventIt is another sign of the growing enthusiasm on the right in the wake of the assassination of Charlie Kirk last month.

The University of North Dakota was the latest stop on the conservative group’s campus tour titled “This is the Turning Point.” Fox News Digital spoke to event attendees about whether they have previous involvement in the conservative movement, and whether conversations and debates need to be prioritized over “owning” liberals.

During a TPUSA event held this week at Montana State University, Vivek Ramaswamy He made comments regarding conversations conservatives should target, and students were asked to respond.

“Own the liberals” has been a popular slogan in conservative circles over the past decade, but Ramaswamy believes the mentality is a thing of the past.

“We don’t care about owning libs. Not anymore,” Ramaswamy said.

The students were asked whether they believe the most effective way to win over Americans is through debate and conversation rather than confrontation.

“I don’t think the conversation should be about owning anyone, or it shouldn’t be like an attack, where either side is attacking each other. I think we should try to have productive conversations to get to our ultimate goal,” Brandon said.

“I would say each group felt like they owned the other at times, but I would never say the conservatives owned the liberals,” Easton said.

Abby pointed to Kirk, who founded TPUSA in 2012, as an example of how to have conversations. “I think that’s what Charlie was best at, was he wouldn’t try to one-up them. He would try to respect them and just tell the facts about why their opinions were wrong, I think.”

He added: “When you choose violence, you actually lose regardless… The best thing we can do is to honestly follow Charlie Kirk’s model. You know, just talk to them, regardless of what they spit on or yell at you.”

Easton didn’t back down.

“Obviously they don’t want gun violence, but that’s what they turn to when they feel like they’ve been wronged in some way. So I agree with that statement to some extent,” he told Fox News Digital.

“This is my first conservative event. I’m really going to check it out,” Brett said.

““I didn’t know much about Turning Point before Charlie Kirk died. So I just wanted to see what it was all about,” Jess said.
