Tottenham Hotspur, led by Thomas Frank, is keen to sign FC Porto striker Samu Ajua.
Despite making significant investments to strengthen their attack in recent seasons, Tottenham still lack firepower in the final third. The North London club have been unable to address their striker problem, and they are considering signing another number nine in the near future.
according to Pete O’Rourke via Football InsiderTottenham are considering making a move for Samu Aguihua. Thomas Frank’s side have scouted him in the past and could push for the signature of the 21-year-old striker, who has been doing wonders for FC Porto.
The Spanish striker has gone from strength to strength since joining the Portuguese side from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024. His consistent performances have put him on the radar of several top clubs.
O’Rourke’s opinion on the Spanish striker’s future
Speaking about Agyhua’s future on Inside Track, O’Rourke said: “I’m sure he (Agyhua) is someone who might be on the list of Tottenham and other clubs in the Premier League.
He added: “Chelsea (came) very close to signing him two transfer periods ago before the player decided to stay.
“Newcastle then included him on their list in the summer window as they looked for potential replacements for Alexander Isak before signing Nick Wultimad.
“So I think he’s a great young player, he’s 21 years old, he’s a Spain international. It’s no surprise that Tottenham and all the other big clubs in the Premier League are looking at him.
“He’s a player with huge potential who can really develop into one of the best strikers in Europe, if he continues his rise. I think that’s why Premier League clubs are interested in him.”
“He has a release clause in his contract with Porto of around £86m, which is a high price on his head.
“But, I think if he continues what he’s doing now and develops as a player and fulfills his potential, it could be a decent amount for someone to want to sign.
“(For) Tottenham, again, the number nine is a problem for them in some ways. Solanke has had injury problems so far this season.
“Then obviously Richarlison got on the pitch and did well there, but there was constant speculation regarding his future.
“Porto would do well to hold on to him (Aguihua) in the next two transfer windows because I am sure the interest will remain.”
Tottenham is planning to raid FC Porto
Tottenham is one of the clubs keen to sign him. The North London club are desperately searching for a number nine who can help them take the next step. While they paid a big fee to sign Dominic Solanke, the former Bournemouth star has been unable to make any impact.
He has struggled to maintain his fitness and has been on the sidelines since the 2-0 win over Manchester City in August. While he was expected to be out of action for only a few weeks, Solanke had to undergo surgery, which kept him out of action for several months.
Aside from him, Randall Kolo Mwani is yet to regain full fitness, while Richarlison has a history of struggling with injuries and has been linked with a move away. As a result, Tottenham are considering signing a world-class striker in the winter transfer window.
They are keen to have Samu Aghehowa in their squad and are considering whether to make a move for the 21-year-old, who is protected by an £86m release clause.
