Topics now let you doodle on top of other users’ posts

Threads is adding a new feature that allows users to get more creative in remixing posts from other people. The app now has a “markup” tool that allows users to scribble on top of posts they want to reshare, as Adam Mosseri shared in .

Markup capabilities appear in the list for citing and republishing. But instead of just citing a post, it launches an editing tool where you can add highlights, arrows, or doodles on top of a screenshot of the post. Mosseri said the feature is “so you can add your creative ideas” to posts, but the tools are somewhat limited at the moment. You can just add yellow lights or red arrows and doodles, though Mosseri said there will be “more in the near future” from the meta.

A Threads spokesperson confirms that the feature will work similarly to quote posts where the original user will be notified if someone chooses to markup their post. You can also use the “Who can reply and quote” setting to disable tags on your own posts.

The app also builds two other features that have already been officially previewed: and . The features are likely to be especially useful for brands, creators, and others who run a professional presence on the site, which so far lacks many of the more advanced, business-focused tools that other Meta platforms have. Both can also be useful if your Meta kicks in to Threads, a move said to be in the works at the beginning of 2025.
