Tim Allen’s Home Improvement is coming to Netflix in 2025

What time? It’s gadget time! This is because the classic sitcom “Home Improvement” will be available on Netflix very soon. The ABC TV series, which ran for eight seasons in the 1990s and made Tim Allen a star, is set to debut on the streaming service in February. So get ready for some nostalgia-filled viewing, because just over 200 episodes of shenanigans with the Taylor family are on the way.

Starting February 1, 2025 in the US, “Home Improvement” will be available in its entirety on Netflix. The show was a ratings monster in its day and remained hugely popular for years thanks to reruns in syndication. It made a huge star out of Allen, who was previously known as a stand-up comedian. It also made a teen star Jonathan Taylor Thomas, who later disappeared from Hollywood altogether. But the show was such a hit that it propelled almost the entire cast onto the Hollywood A-list for a time.

The series revolves around Tim “The Toolman” Taylor, the host of a very popular home improvement show called “Tool Time,” which he co-hosts alongside his friend Al (Richard Karn). Meanwhile, Tim and his wife Jill are raising three boys, guiding them through various dilemmas and personal drama. The series also starred Patricia Richardson, Zachary Ty Bryan, Taran Noah Smith, and Pamela Anderson before she became a star in her own right.

This will likely be a huge boost to 90s nostalgia for many viewers. For what it’s worth, the show has been available on DVD and streaming at various points, and was available on Disney+ overseas for a while. But the fact that it’s coming to Netflix means it will be streamed to the largest possible audience Netflix remains the king of the hill in the streaming wars. The question is, why did Disney license “Home Improvement” to Netflix in the first place?

It’s all about another popular show, “Grey’s Anatomy.” In late 2023, Disney struck a cross-licensing deal so the popular medical drama would be available on the company’s bundled Disney+ and Hulu offerings, according to Delivery time. Previously, it was available on both Hulu and Netflix. As part of the deal, Disney agreed to license a total of 14 shows to Netflix, including “Reba,” “The Bernie Mac Show” and “Home Improvement.” The deal runs for 18 months, meaning the show is expected to leave Netflix after August 2026.

However, this is still enough time for viewers to stream as they see fit. Who knows? If the show finds renewed popularity, it could pave the way for a revival. After all, a lot of shows that were popular in the streaming era are coming back. Tim Allen even raised the possibility of a Home Improvement reboot in 2018although we haven’t heard much about it since. Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. Now, fans of the series will have a great opportunity to reacquaint themselves with the series.
