Tiktok #skinnytok blocks due to severe weight loss, turbulent food content

Tiktok says it has prevented the search results for the “Skinnytok” retail tag due to the high volume of content that enhanced disturbed eating and unhealthy weight loss behaviors on the social media platform.

“We regularly review our safety measures to treat advanced risks and prohibited the search results for #skinnytok because it has become associated with the content of unhealthy weight loss,” said a statement from Tiktok via email to CBC News on Wednesday.

“We continue to restrict videos from adolescent accounts and provide health and information experts in TIKTOK search,” the statement said.

The term Skinnytok has become widely used to describe a sub -culture online from influencers and content creators who strengthen severe thinness.
