The suspects, between the ages of 24, 26 and 27, were held widely identified in the Japanese media as Chinese citizens, in Amami, a southern island where crustaceans with spiral pieces are protected species.

The police told the local media that the authorities were alerted to the live goods for men when the hotel staff, who were asked to take care of their luggage, noticed their bags that make “a fast noise.”

The officers later discovered “thousands” of crabs, which weigh about 95 kg. The third man has another 65 kg in another group of three bags.

“Our investigation is a continuous investigation to determine whether they have (crabs) to sell, to preserve them as pets, or to eat them,” a police spokesman told Agence France Presse following the arrests on Wednesday. “We are reviewing all possibilities.”

Police said the explosive cancer was a “national treasure”, as it was part of the diversity of the plant and animals on the front island.
