Ukraine is also sending a drone strike to Russia, with air defenses intercepting attacks in 13 regions, including Moscow.

At least three people have been killed in a Russian drone attack near Ukraine’s capital.

Drone debris killed two men and a woman in the overnight attack on the central Kiev region, damaging a residential apartment building, eight private homes, commercial buildings and several private cars, the Interior Ministry said on Friday.

The attack came as Russian authorities said the country’s air defense systems had intercepted and destroyed 121 drones launched by Ukraine overnight. The Ministry of Defense said in a statement issued on Telegram that the drones shot down more than 13 Russian regions, including seven over Moscow and the nearby region.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the drones were intercepted in several locations around the capital.

Russian news agencies quoted the Federal Aviation Agency as saying that two airports in Moscow – Vnukovo and Domodedovo – were handling flights after suspending operations. Six flights were redirected to other airports.

Other regions targeted by attacks included Kursk, Bryansk, Belgorod and Russia’s Crimean peninsula, according to the Ministry of Defense.

Governors of the Ryazan and Tula regions, both located south of Moscow, also reported attacks.

US dishes on pressure

Moscow and Kiev are vying for an advantage ahead of potential negotiations in the US president’s first days Donald Trumpadministration.

Before his inauguration, Trump promised to end the Ukraine war immediately after taking office, raising expectations that he would leverage aid to force Kiev to make concessions to Russia, which invaded in February 2022.

But this week, the pressure on the Russian counterpart escalated Vladimir Putin To seal a deal, he threatened tougher economic measures if Moscow did not agree to end the nearly three-year-old war.

During an interview on Thursday, Trump said: “If they don’t settle this war soon, like almost immediately, I’m going to put huge tariffs on Russia, huge taxes, and also huge sanctions.”
