Three dead after the historical surface railway is deviated

Emergency services said that at least three people were killed and 20 others were wounded after they went out of its path in the famous Gloria in Lisbon.

The head of the Civil Protection Authority in Portugal said that many people remained trapped at the scene and that nine people were in serious condition.

Joint footage on the social media showed the yellow -like structure that has been turned almost completely and destroyed. People can be seen from the area on foot because smoke fills the air.

Portuguese President Marcelo Reblo de Sosa issued a statement expressed by “his sympathy and solidarity with families affected by this tragedy.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Lin also sent her condolences to the families of the victims.

It is not clear that the number of people were on board at the time of the cable railway, which occurred near Avenida Da Liberdade around 18:05 pm on Wednesday.

It is not known whether these dead are Portuguese or foreign citizens.

The Portuguese newspaper reported that the cable has arrived along the railway road, causing the loss of control and colliding with a nearby building.

There are sixty -two emergency service employees and 22 vehicles at the scene, according to the Civil Protection website.

Gloria Funicular is one of the most famous tourist attractions and tourist attractions in Lisbon. It was opened in 1885 and three decades.
