At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, which kicks off this week, Roborock, a Chinese manufacturer of robotic vacuum cleaners and other home cleaning devices, unveiled a new robotic vacuum model with a folding robotic arm. It did pique my curiosity, however Now I really want one.
The OmniGrip arm has 5-axis motion and can lift items weighing less than 300 grams, such as socks and dog toys. It identifies objects it can lift while cleaning the floor and then spins back to pick them up when you’re done. It even cleans the areas underneath objects on its second pass – that’s attention to detail! The Saros 270 will go on sale later this year, but price is TBD.

What we already know is coming.
In addition to the usual trade show floor mayhem, there will be keynotes from NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang, Delta CEO Ed Bastian and more. We also saw that Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X (Twitter), will be interviewing journalist Katherine Herridge in a keynote on January 7. Snap CEO Evan Spiegel will speak about “future goals for the platform” on January 8. The last two may be the most interesting.
Where do they belong?
Meta has deleted most of its AI-generated profiles from Facebook and Instagram, the company has confirmed, after its AI personas sparked widespread anger and ridicule from users on social media. Meta-powered AI was launched in September 2023, rolling out alongside the company’s popularly branded AI chatbots (also discontinued). Meta hasn’t updated any of these profiles for months, and the pages appear to have gone largely unnoticed until this week. On Instagram, their profiles also included AI-generated posts, e.g 404 media I noticed that it is very similar to the artificial intelligence that fills the corners of the Internet.
