When Donald Trump took the target of the Apple to expand production in India, and instead entered for manufacturing at home, Deepak Shenoy, CEO of CapitalMind AMC, found a common reason. But his agreement came with the development – an invitation to India to adopt the same playing book.
In a post on X (on Twitter officially), Senoy asked about a violent reaction to Trump’s comments, “Why are we all tampers about Trump telling Tim Cook not to build in India but rather to build in the United States?” Then he pointed out, and urged Indian policy makers to push local companies towards local manufacturing as well.
“This is exactly what India needs to tell its manufacturers as well – building here, not in China,” she wrote. “The leader of every country wants jobs for his people.”
These notes came after a note statement by former US President Donald Trump at a work event in Doha, where the CEO of Apple Tim Cook criticized the expansion of operations in India. Trump said: “I told him, my friend, I am treating you well. You reach $ 500 billion, but now I hear that you are building all over India. I don’t want you to build in India,” Trump said. “You can build in India, if you want to take care of India because India is one of the highest customs tariff countries in the world.”
Despite the criticism, Trump hinted a shift in the dynamics of trade, claiming that India had made a deal that would bring a “mainly zero tariff” to a wide range of American goods. He said, “India has offered us a deal mainly zero -zero,” which indicates progress in commercial talks during his tour in West Asia.
However, Indian officials hit a more cautious tone. Speaking on May 15, Minister of Foreign Affairs S Jaishankar explained that negotiations are continuing and no agreement has been completed. “Between India and the United States, commercial talks were continuing. These are complicated negotiations. There is nothing to decide even everything,” said Jayishkar. “Any commercial deal must be mutually useful; it must work in both countries.”
