This amazing 80s thriller has only gotten better with age

Maverick (Tom Cruise) and Gus (Anthony Edwards) are like two peas in a cockpit, playing war games and following no one’s rules but their own. Our two lovebirds exchange playful jabs, but dialogue doesn’t take center stage here. Cut hot, steamy, unauthorized kisses to keep the adults in the audience hot and bothered. Now it’s time for the ripped guys to play volleyball. Women will certainly come out of this.

Maverick’s air accident shakes his self-confidence, setting off the film’s second and third acts. Redemption arc? Hell yes. Suddenly, this isn’t training anymore, and Iceman needs Maverick to be his wingman. The planes take off, and Maverick’s actions cause everyone to applaud. amazing.
