While most players choose… Over-ear headphonesThere are actually quite a few advantages to using earbuds instead. For starters, they’re more portable, which is especially important if you play on your phone, or a handheld gaming device. My favorite Switch 2 carrying case It has a convenient storage pocket inside that these things can fit right inside, so I don’t have to search for them in the overhead compartment once I’ve already buckled up for a long trip.

They also have great compatibility, with discounted versions supporting either Xbox or PlayStation, and both methods work well with Switch, PC, and smartphones without any additional software or drivers. The compact USB-C dongle fits perfectly into the case, and has a horizontal design that allows it to sit cleanly atop controllers or phones, providing low-response 2.4GHz audio, as well as Bluetooth for listening to just tunes. Battery life is right up there with other wireless earbuds, managing around 10 hours in just the buds, and pushing 40 hours total with the charging case.

I also really appreciated the SteelSeries mobile app. In addition to the normal settings you’d expect for active noise cancellation, there’s a huge library of equalizer settings for popular games. You’ll be amazed at how much of a difference these devices make, allowing you to switch between optimal settings for different games without having to set up any profiles or remember frequencies.

They’re really comfortable too, so much so that they’ve become my favorite earbuds for walking the dog or working out. It has great fit and sound isolation, and while this is personal preference, the use of physical buttons rather than capacitive touch for the controls makes momentary bumping less likely.

If gaming earbuds aren’t up to your speed, be sure to check these out Our collection of other great gaming headsets. You might be surprised at how well modern earbuds work in gaming and regular life, so don’t be afraid to give them a try, especially at a discounted price.
