Reports from Kyiv

Ukrainians went to bed on Friday evening with a frightening possibility that Donald Trump could be seduced by Vladimir Putin to make great concessions in the war.
They woke up on Saturday morning to find that the Trump Putin Summit in Alaska instead had faded without any strategic or political agreements. It was a rare example of a failed luxury to a relief.
In the absence of any real developments, interest in Ukraine has turned into the introductory aspects of the summit – “optics”, in political speech.
Putin, the man in charge of the destroyed aggression war against Ukraine, received the warmer welcoming Alaska. American soldiers knelt to launch the red carpet. Trump applauded him approaching and showing friendly handshake. The two leaders rode together on their own in the Trump’s presidential limusen, and Putin can be seen laughing when the car retreated.
For the Russian president, who has been internationally avoided since his full invasion of Ukraine, the greeting was a wonderful return to the global diplomatic theater and put a tone that would continue throughout the day.
In Ukraine, it was not a welcome scene.
“The red carpet and this level of celebration are normal in international events, but in this case – for the institution responsible for the death of millions – it should not have happened,” said Maria Drashova, 40, a lawyer in the capital, Kiev.
Drachova, who woke up and watched the shots at breakfast, said it seemed as if the entire event had been satisfied with Putin.
“The rational world behaves irrationally by giving him this welcome,” she said.

Putin’s plane had escorted the air base in Alaska by four American combat aircraft and while he was wandering in the red carpet, and spoke with Trump, an American B-2 bomber that flew surrounding four other aircraft.
Olksander Kovalinko, the Ukrainian writer and political analyst, said that the Ukrainians who remained awake late to watch the scene were seeing “the legitimacy of the war criminal at the highest level.”
“This splendor was not needed at all,” Kovalinko said. “This is a meeting that should have been held in a more restricted way – minimal, without this level of respect.”
After the greetings, Trump and Putin sat in front of a group of correspondents at the Elmendorf Air Force base, under a sign that read “Follow -up of Peace”. The screaming of a question in Putin: “Do you stop killing civilians?”
The Russian leader seemed to smile, and alluded to his ear to indicate that he could not hear him.
Along with smiles, laughter, and goodwill in the exhibition, the gesture entered a very sour observation in Ukraine, where hundreds of thousands were killed and wounded in the Russian war of aggression.
“When I saw what happened,” said Sirhi Orlek, 50, from the eastern Donetsk province, which was seized by Russian forces.
“I lost my house twice, in Sloveansk and in Donetsk. I lost their relatives,” said Orik. “I understand that to agree on something, there must be a protocol, you can not only slap Putin in the face when he arrived. But it was a very unpleasant scene – especially his smiles.”

Putin continued to respect after the negotiations. In a joint statement of the press, Trump gave the way to the Russian leader to speak first. He spoke for approximately eight minutes, and avoid any male carefully about how the war started – with Russia’s remarkable and unjustified action.
Putin seemed active, satisfied with how the summit went. On the contrary, Trump appeared unusual, and he talked about two minutes barely. He could not boast of anything approaching a deal – the currency through which he tilted work.
Instead, Kiir Giles, an older colleague in the Russia and Eurasia program in Chatham House, said, instead, said Putin’s initiative.
“It was a great victory for Putin even before leaving the plane, to rehabilitate it in this way,” said Giles. “Trump facilitated his welcome as head of state, when he had to find it difficult to travel because he is a war criminal required internationally.”

Giles said that Trump’s approach would be unlikely to inspire European leaders to follow his example. “If there is anything, this will enhance the importance of not supporting Putin’s demands for Ukraine, and not subjecting themselves to the same type of scene that will win Trump.”
In a statement on Saturday, President Zelinski stressed the importance of the presence of European leaders at each stage of negotiations. They are often seen as Blueck against the possibility of Trump unjustified in an unjustified way.
But before this happens, Zelinski will go to Washington on Monday, the scene of his catastrophic oval office with Trump in February. He will hope to have a better result this time, and a way to peace does not involve surrender to Russia’s aggressive demands.
Olixander Kovalinko, a political analyst, said the United States has a “wide range of tools” at its disposal to help Ukraine in that task. But it should not be among them is a pioneer and President Putin’s concert.
“This may have been all that aims to deceive and laine Putin, and pushed him to follow the White House strategy,” said Kovalinko.
“But I doubt it. Most likely it is Trump’s whim, without any strategy at all.”
