In a historical history first, many of the major western countries formally recognize the Palestinian state in what Dr. Julie Norman describes as a “decisive moment”, as symbolism and strategy are increasingly intertwined. As a associate professor in politics and international relations at the University of London University (UCL), Dr. Norman argues that this step indicates a seismic transformation in international consensus on the Israeli and Pastite conflict and indicates a growing deviation between the United States and Israel and their closest allies. Since Israel and the United States are facing and isolating international pressure, the question is no longer whether recognition is possible, but what it now represents for the future of the peace process and the stability of the wider region.
