Police said that the 82 -year -old man and his wife were roaming towards a mountain hut in Ramsu, Am Dashtein, in the province of Austria, on Sunday afternoon when the accident occurred.
“A retired couple from Vienna and their dog were walking under the so-called Austria’s hut when it was a herd of nine cows-including three calves-an accused and wounded them strongly,” said Marcus Lamb, a local police spokesman for Agence France Presse.

The hikers in the area and the people who manage the near shelter hut witnessed the attack, managed first aid and alerting emergency services. Then the spouses were taken to the hospital in Salzburg.
The officials said the man died of his wounds before he was able to undergo emergency surgery.
Local public prosecutors are achieving in the exact conditions of the attack, pending an autopsy.
The deadly cow attacks are rare in a nation more than nine million people, as their mountains are one of the famous tourist attractions as the herds of the cows are sponsored freely.
In 2024, a woman died, accompanied by two young dogs, who were in the Salzburg area, when she was accused by a cow.
After a deadly cow attack a decade ago, the Austria government published the “Code of Conduct” for hikers.
The guidelines include keeping a distance of cows and dogs walking shortly, but unleash them in the event of an attack.
