The veto in the United States, the United Nations calls for a ceasefire for the sixth time

For the sixth time, the United States has a veto of a draft resolution of the United Nations Security Council that would have requested immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the hostages.

The American deputy envoy in the Middle East, Morgan Ortridos, said that the text did not go far enough to condemn Hamas or get to know Israel’s right to defend itself.

All the other 14 Security Council members voted in favor of the draft resolution – which described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as “catastrophic” and called on Israel to raise all aid restrictions.

It comes at a time when the United Nations Humanitarian Office warns that the last lines of life for civilians collapses in Gaza City, where Israel expands its military attack.

On the global theater, Israel and the closest ally appear to be increasingly isolated.

Speaking before the vote, Ortigos said that Washington’s opposition to the decision should “not surprise.”

“It fails to condemn Hamas or recognize Israel’s right to defend itself, and gives the mistake of the wrong novels that benefit from Hamas, which unfortunately found a currency in this council,” she said.

After voting, UN members reacted quickly to express their disappointment.

The Palestinian ambassador to the United Nations, Mansour, described the US decision as “very unfortunate and painful”, saying that he prevented the Security Council from “playing its right role in facing these atrocities.”

Pakistan Ambassador Asim Ahmed described the Cassation as “a dark moment in this room.”

“The world is watching. Children’s cries must penetrate our hearts,” he said.

Ammar Bandgama, the Algerian ambassador, apologized to the Palestinian people.

“The Palestinian brothers, the Palestinian sisters, forgive us,” he said.

“Forgive us, because the world talks about rights, but it deprives them of the Palestinians. Forgive us because our efforts, and sincere efforts, were shattered against the wall of rejection.”

This recent vote for the United Nations came a few days before the assembly of world leaders in the United Nations General Assembly, where Gaza will be a major topic and is expected to learn about major American allies, including the United Kingdom An independent Palestinian state.

In Gaza, thousands of people continue to escape from the area amid continuous fatal attacks, as Israeli tanks and forces continue to advance on the third day of the ground attack.

“Nothing is less than catastrophic.”

The Israeli army launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas -led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others took hostage.

At least 65,141 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then, according to the Ministry of Health in the region.

The ministry says 435 other people have died until now during the war as a result of malnutrition and hunger, including four over the past 24 hours.
