The United States government will try to prevent any attempt to ban Israel from competing in the 2026 World Cup.

The United Nations investigation committee said earlier this month that Israel committed genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza.

This was led by a committee of United Nations experts and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to call for sports sanctions against the country.

The World Cup will be hosted next year by the United States, Mexico and Canada.

A US State Department spokesman told BBC Sport: “We will completely stop any effort to try to ban Israel’s national football team from the World Cup,” a US State Department spokesman told BBC Sport.

Meanwhile, there were reports that the European Football Group – which is organizing the World Cup qualifiers – could meet to report whether Israel would suspend early next week.

“Our understanding is that the leadership of the European Union wants to see some procedures on this,” added one of the senior sources in the European Association.

“Nothing has been confirmed or schedule. But there is a new high -level pressure from many countries compared to only one month.”

Israel is scheduled to play the role of Norway in the World Cup qualification in October 11.

Earlier this month, the President of the Norwegian Football Association, Liz Clavini, said that its organization “must deal with Israel in its competitions, but it cannot and will not be indifferent to the humanitarian suffering that occurs in the region, especially the attacks that are not appropriate to civilians in Gaza.”

The Italian Federation also talked about the challenges of playing Israel, which Italy hosted on October 14 in Odin.

The United Nations report said that there are reasonable reasons for the conclusion that four of the five collective genocide that were identified under international law had been implemented since the beginning of the war in 2023.

A committee of human rights experts at the United Nations later invited the FIFA Football Administration and its European body UEFA to suspend the national team of Israel from international football.

Israel regularly denied that its actions in Gaza reach genocide and say it is justified as a means of self -defense. The Foreign Ministry called on the United Nations report “deformed and false.”

The Israeli army launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas -led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others took hostage.

At least 65,419 people have been killed in Gaza since then, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health in the region. The ministry’s figures were transferred by the United Nations and others as a more reliable source of statistics available to the victims.

There has been an increase in calls to ban Israel from sports competition since the United Nations report.

Amid reports that UEFA can vote on whether Israel will be suspended next week. UEFA said that there is no meeting currently.

Israel ranks third in the World Cup qualifying group – organized by the European Football Association – has nine points, six behind Norway leaders.

The highest team of each group is automatically qualified for the World Cup, as he entered second place in the players.

Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez said that Israel should be treated in the same way as Russia by banning it from international sports competitions.

“Israel cannot continue to use any international platform to whiten its image,” Sanchez said.

The Russian national team has been prevented from competing in international football championships since the country’s invasion of 2022 for Ukraine.
